How To Find a New Hot Water System

August 15, 2016

Not many people like a cold shower. In fact, for many of us losing heat mid-wash is our worst nightmare.

If you’ve lost hot waterfor good, you’re going to need a new hot water system. Before you go ahead and install the first model on the market, it’s important to determine which hot water system will meet your specific needs. But you don’t want to put up with another day of cold showers!

Luckily for you we have compiled everything you need to know about choosing a hot water system in one handy post.

AIM FOR EFFICIENCY WHEN LOOKING FOR A HOT WATER SYSTEM IN ADELAIDE.

When it comes to hot water systems efficiency is important. You want your hot water system to heat up just the right amount of water so you’re not left with a cold finish or an expensive bill.

Make sure you determine your hot water system’s efficiency rating and compare that to your household’s water consumption during peak times.

ELECTRIC, GAS, SOLAR, OR HEAT PUMP?

There’s more than one way to heat your water, each with their pros and cons. Make sure you choose the hot water system installation that’s right for you.

  • Electric – Cheaper to buy and install, these systems can be installed indoors or outdoors. Electric hot water heaters are usually the most expensive to run, especially if they run on an all-day rate.
  • Natural Gas – If you have the connection for it, natural gas is cheaper than electricity. These systems are usually installed outdoors, are energy efficient and sometimes have a pilot light.
  • Solar – Consisting of solar panels and a storage tank (usually a large one), these systems are comparatively expensive and time consuming but pay off with inexpensive running costs. These tanks usually have a gas or electric booster for hot water on days without sunshine.
  • Heat Pump – Working on the same principle as an air conditioner, heat pumps extract heat from the air and use it to heat the water tank. These units need to be installed in a well-ventilated area and tend to be noisy.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR LAST MODEL?

Before you rush out and buy a different water heater, ask yourself what was wrong with your previous water heater. If your busted water heater lasted you for years, was energy efficient, and suited your lifestyle, then you might want to consider investing in the same model. If there’s room for  Improvement though, consider efficiency, consider your heating method and consider the factors that go along with that (like the size and price).
